Number of Years of Renewal / Scholarship Timeframe

  • You can only receive WSOS funding at the $2,500 level for one, two or three years.
    • If selected as a high school senior, you can receive up to three years of funding at the $2,500 level.
    • If at the time of your initial application, you were selected as a college student who had completed six or fewer quarters, or four or fewer semesters, WSOS will determine the number of years of funding but no more than up to three years of funding.

  • After 1-3 years, you will be required to increase your scholarship to the $5,000 level in order to remain in the program.  See Timeframe.
  • You can apply to increase your scholarship to the $5,000 level once you earn 90 quarter credits or 60 semester credits and are accepted into an eligible high-demand STEM or health care major at a four-year college or university or at a community college that offers a an eligible high-demand Bachelors’ degree. Please note that once you apply for the increase, the total number of earned credits on your official college transcripts will reset the number of years in which you will be eligible to receive funding.

  • Based on the documentation that you provide to increase your scholarship to the $5,000 level, WSOS will automatically increase your scholarship to the $7,500 level when we determine that you will have earned 135 quarter credits or 90 semester credits, and decrease your scholarship back to the $5,000 level when we determine that you will have earned 181 quarter credits, or 121 semester credits.  After you have received funding at each level for three quarters (two semesters), or once WSOS determines that you should have earned over 225 quarter credits, or over 151 semester credits, you will no longer be eligible for further funding.

You will be notified during renewal each August how much funding you’ll receive per term for the coming academic year.  Additional information is available in the Requesting an Increase FAQ's.

  • You can only receive WSOS funding for up to a maximum of five years.
    • If selected as a high school senior, you can receive up to five years of funding.
    • If at the time of your initial application you were selected as a college student, the number of quarters or semesters you had completed at the time of application determines the number of years you will be eligible to receive funding.
      • Students who were in their first year of college at the time of application will only be eligible to receive WSOS funding for a maximum of four years.
      • Students in their second year of college will only be eligible to receive WSOS funding for up to three years.
