We all feel it. It's hard to be certain of what the future holds during COVID-19. Our Scholar community feels it, too, as they navigate the cost and challenges of access to college during a global pandemic.

The value of our scholarship may be more important today than ever before in our nine-year history. An Opportunity Scholarship is a promise to bright Washington students - largely first-generation, low-income, students of color - that there will be help to pay for their education and also for everyday necessities like rent, transportation, groceries and medical bills. It’s a promise that their dreams of becoming a nurse or a scientist or a biomedical engineer won’t be waylaid by a worldwide health crisis. It's the promise that the loss of an income or the need to take care of a sick family member won’t permanently disrupt their hopes for the future.

Washington needs Scholars. We don't have enough health care providers to meet demand even in normal circumstances - and we need more scientists and researchers and technology innovators to meet the needs of our state now and when Washington gets back to work. Once we reach the new normal, we know our Scholars will be the ones who keep the lights on, our agriculture businesses thriving, our science innovating and our tech sector powering solutions to our world's toughest problems.

Your gift is doubled. Today and every day your gift is matched dollar-for-dollar by the state of Washington to keep Scholars on a path toward the industries where talent is needed most.

Keeping our promise is important for Scholars and it's important for Washington.
